When he was about 15, Big Steve Humphrey picked up the guitar for the first time and learned a few folk tunes. Soon after that he got into surfing and surf music. The next thing he knew he was playing in a surf band. He had discovered that music was his passion.
After graduation Big Steve went into the Air Force and after his discharge in 1967, spent some time in San Francisco during the early hippie years. There, he was then strongly influenced by the Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver, Hendrix, Zeppelin, the Dead, etc.
Big Steve moved Oregon in 1970 where music began to take a more pivotal role in his life. He started out by playing in some rock bands over the years and along the way Big Steve began playing the harmonica.
The world was waiting.
Having always loved the blues, Big Steve started to play blues/rock. In 1997 he started, playing all original blues/rock material.
In the summer of 2002 Big Steve got together with some other musicians and formed "Big Steve & the Trainwreck" where he was able to really focus on the blues harp and play the blues exclusively.
On their first album, 'Sigh For Me', Big Steve and the Trainwreck stretch out by combining a mixture of unique styles and personalities into an audio journey that everyone can find something to relate to. Although it is an all blues album, you can hear different blues style as you go from song to song. You have a mixture of traditional, acoustic, electric and modern blues that flows so smoothly that it seems like you just started listening to the cd when it ends.
Although the road has just begun, as a group they look forward to being musically educated and influenced by each other and also by other musicians. Now, this unique group of guys, Big Steve & the Trainwreck, are all doing what they love to do, playin' the blues.
Thanks for listening.
