Banjoist Beth Mead successfully mines the vein of 1920's -50's pop, swing, and big band songs on her first cd release, "Big Bandjo". Mead is one of a few five-string banjo stylists, like Alan Munde and Bill Keith, who play and genuinely love the old pop songs, and she creates melodic and satisfying arrangements for these tunes. "Big BandjoRides Again" (her second album, also available at this web site) also adds several Western Swing numbers to the mix of pop standards, and features tasty vocals, swing mandolin and trumpet, pedal steel, and the superb acoustic guitar of Alan Munde. It is a real treat.

Everybody involved in the making of this cd seems to have had a great time, and the music reflects that - in Mead's rolling banjo, Alan Munde's twin-fiddle sounding guitar breaks and Jerry Allender's jaunty trumpet,

The musicians include Mead on 5-string banjo and vocals, Alan Munde on lead and rhythm acoustic guitar, Larry Cohen on electric bass, Joe Carr, George
Abramson, and Richie Kalikow on mandolin, Jerry Allender on trumpet, Jim Cohen on pedal steel, and Tom Gala, Peter Lorch and Frank Burk on vocals.

So crank up your cd player and ride off into the sunset with Beth Mead and "Big Bandjo". Highly recommended!
