Anorak, the bright hope of the Spanish "cooltronica" scene, two Spanish members and one from UK coming from Rubi, a village in the province of Barcelona, tried with success to translate the teen spirit into the 80ies synth-pop. In "A Limited time only", the roots and influences include such names as New Order (specially in "running out of memories" and "Wet Fields") and Pet Shop Boys. Without ignoring the origins of their influences, this band has put a premium on looking to the future of Morr Music, rather than staying in the past of Warp Records.
Undoubtedly, this novice band surprise us connecting brilliantly the human feeling and the humanoid atmosphere. Authenticity and artificiality fits together naturally in their tunes, like a marriage of opposites. In 2002, "Yoshimi Battles The Pinks Robots" of The Flaming Lips, led us think that the suicide of a robot was possible. Anorak is not the first band transmitting its emotional world through robotic sounds, but is the the first Spanish band using electronica to make music that's inclusive and warm instead of exclusive and aloof, a gently involving and moving album. If ten years ago came the new breathing air of Family, in 2005, we have to celebrate the arrival of Anorak, don't you think?
