Rob and Heather's tight harmonies and intense personal connection have drawn praise from fans. "A two-headed dragon," "the dark angel and the sweet siren," and "separated at birth," are compliments they often receive.
Rob Hinkal is the band beast, ilyAIMY's frontman and primary songwriter. His percussive acoustic guitar style and earnest, emotive voice, flecked with a handful of glass and gravel off the Baltimore streets, give ilyAIMY its distinctive sound. Rob originally took up his acoustic to impress a fellow student attending Baltimore's Maryland Institute College of Art. A couple years later, he graduated with the girl, a degree in illustration (his day job), and a passion to pursue music.
Heather Lloyd, Rob's singing, songwriting and guitar playing partner, is a vocal chameleon, providing the force, grit, softness or sweetness a song calls for. Though interested in music her entire life, Heather did little more than play coffee houses for fun while she took an eight-year detour into journalism. She reported for The Baltimore Sun, and earned her degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, the site of her day job.
