A Brief Biography:

In his relatively short time in the spotlight, Alec Scott, has flourished into a refined artist with his poignant and well-crafted songs aimed for the soul. The 18-year old singer/songwriter's 4-octave silky vocals are fitting for his emotional confessions of longing and lost love, candid portraits of society, and inspirational anthems.

Trained in piano as a certificate student at the Peabody Preparatory, Scott studied performance pieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods for over seven years. Alec has also studied theatre and music at the Baltimore School for the Arts, Berklee College of Music, University of Virginia, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Goucher College, and North Carolina School for the Arts singing, composing, performing, and nurturing his eclectic folk-rock sound.

Alec has independently distributed two EPs since his first release in the fall of 1996. That same year he gained his first local exposure appearing at the official Maryland state theater, Center Stage. Alec was handpicked by director Irene Lewis' color blind casting over 300 other young performers for the commanding role of Andrea Sarti opposite Robet Foxworth, in her musical production of Galileo. This resulted in Alec's first of several appearance in the local press with over stories including The Baltimore City Paper and The Afro-American Newspaper which proclaimed, "A Star is Born at Center Stage".

Alec's latest five-song self-distributed EP, "Fables of Freedom", was completed during the summer of 2000. Billboard Magazine calls Scott, "A singer/songwriter who deftly walks the line between socially conscious rock and street-wise funk," while stating, "Much of the material on his self-made EP is spare and acoustic rooted, allowing the listener to really dig into the depth of Scott's words, as well as the infectious nature of his melodies." (Continental Drift, October 28, 2000). In support of the release Mr. Scott can be seen on stage, with acoustic guitar in hand, performing both new and older material in the Baltimore Area, Cleveland, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Charlottesville, and New York City.

A first-year student at Oberlin College, Scott maintains contact with his growing fan base through www.mp3.com/alecscott. His first full-length LP, "Live at CBGBs" was released on March 27th. The album features the pop gem "Come Outside and Play", roots-inflected "Black Bean Blues", and melancholic rock ballad "Hold on to the Night". Markedly, "Live at CBGBs" shows elements of steady growth in Scott's abilities as a vocalist and songwriter. - Marty Greenbaum, April 2002
