AL OFFER, a singer-songwriter from the Austin-San Antonio area of Texas, has been gigging/writing/recording since the mid 70's. A throwback to '60's protest singers, AL mixes many musical styles (folk, rock, Byrds' style country, R & B, and reggae). Vocally/ideologically he has been compared to Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Joe Cocker, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Steven Stills, and Richie Havens. He has written over 5 albums, including "KIDSONGS" (children). "What's Goin' On" was his debut work.
On "What's Goin' On" each song displays a different style, pace, topic, ideology, and instrumentation/arrangement than the previous tune. Critics comment that the CD sounds more like a compilation of songs from different artists with very diifferent styles than the work of a single artist. Lyrical topics cover environmental issues, governmental inhumanity, damaging cultural values, dealing with death, abuse of creative musicians by corporate America, the loss of women's power, masculinity vs. machismo & children's issues. AL played all the guitars, bass, keys, percussion and Lead vocals (some backing). He was assisted by great musicians such as: Tom Flood on sax (session player with David Bramberg) and Yvonne Lewis Bradley on backing vocals (session singer for Quincey Jones, Patti LaBelle, Whitney Houston, Patti Austin, Roberta Flack, Luther Vandross and many other legends; as well as singing credits on the movies FAME, THE WIZ, ALL THAT JAZZ and THE MUPPET MOVIE). All songs, except the last cut "Romanza" (Trad. Spanish Folk), were written by AL.
