Abrasive Method (A.M.)
Somewhere between the chaos of a rowdy frat party and the serenity of an artist’s studio lies Abrasive Method. Charlie Beans and Tony Franks are constantly moving from party crashing to self-analysis with their own manic depressive perspective. In 2003 Beans and Franks began to put together their full-length debut, 4 AM. While they were recording the album, they began to perform at bars and smaller venues in the Detroit Area. Their live show and work ethic earned them “Best New Group†honors at the Detroitrap.com Awards in 2004 before their album even came out. The album officially dropped at their record release party in July of 2004. Since its release, 4 AM has garnered attention locally and through the internet. The well reputed website rapreviews.com wrote,†With a distinctive sound and implicitly endearing honesty the group stands out. They don’t hide behind ‘being real’ and honesty is being real. As they say, ‘we’re not from the hood and we don’t try to say it. These suburban a-- white boys got the sh-t bangin’ dude.’ That’s almost touching truth.†A.M. has developed a style dripping with honesty and entertainment that sets them apart from most hip-hop artists. Since their debut was released they have played numerous shows around the metro Detroit Area. They have shared the stage with underground hip hop heavyweights like RA the Rugged Man, Tame One and Cage. In 2006 they released their highly anticipated follow up, The Most Dangerous Game…Rock, Paper, Scissors.
