Childhood friends Scandal and Happ G linked up in 1998 to form 40th Dimension while both were at school in New York; Happ at NYU and Scand upstate at Binghamton University. Scandal would come down for weekend visits and they would record tracks in Happ's apartment.
These early recording sessions helped 40D to find their voice, style and subject matter. They also provided the nucleus for what would become 40th Dimension's first official offering, the vinyl only release "The Clarence Beeks Project" EP which was released on the now-defunct NYC label HiRes Records in July of 2000.
After that first release 40th Dimension stepped up their game and became more serious about their musical goals. Scandal became more focused on writing complete songs and not just battle raps, and Happ grew leaps and bounds on the production side of things.
They quickly followed with the "Super Scandalous" 12" and maxi-single cd, which was the first release on Karma Response Unit Records in January of 2001.
Next up was the "Zip It" 12" which was released in August of 2001. 40D quickly followed with their full length debut "The Crop Report", hailed by many as a classic Philly underground hip hop record. Released in january of 2002, this album showcased 40D's wide variety of subject matter and sounds. This album also marked the first Karma Response Unit Records' appearances by Snuff, Jake Lefco, and Dr. Noh, all now official members of the KRU roster.
At the NYC release party for "The Crop Report" one of 40D's favorites, Jeru the Damaja, came out to show support.
40th Dimension performed extensively in and around the Philadelphia area to promote the album, and began to network with a wide range of artists. 40D, along with Reef the Lost Cauze, contributed the track "Heat Ya Head Up" to the Arrakis Records' compilation "The Spice" released in July 2002. Scand was also featured on the title track posse cut.
40D also ventured out to Chicago to record a track for the Northwestern University compilation "NiteSkool" which featured artists and groups from the school. The track was produced by 40D's high school buddy Dr. Noh who was a student at the university at the time.
Around this same time Scand and Happ appeared in a commercial for a local nightlife website which also featured Scratch of the Roots. In the commercial Scand was seen ripping flows over Scratch's inhuman beat boxes.
40D were also interviewed on the website eyada.com on 'the Adam Paul show'. 40D has also had features/interviews written up on PhillyHipHop.com in the "Vibin with Deesha" column, and were interviewed on UGSmag.com.
40D were finalists in 3 categories of the 2001 PhillyHipHop.com awards. 40thDimension.com was a finalist for best artist website, and Scandal was a finalist for both freestyler of the year and lyricist of the year. They were beaten out by the Roots' site okayplayer.com for the best artist website award. Last Emperor took the freestyler of the year award and Black Thought of the Roots took the lyricist of the year award.
40th Dimension has performed all over the country, sharing stages with All Natural, Cee Knowledge (formerly Doodlebug of Digable Planets), Rahzel, Mr. Lif, Percee-P, C-Rayz Walz, PM Dawn, Virtuoso, Breez Evahflowin, Cannibal Ox, Scram Jones, Blu Rum 13, Agallah (8-Off the Assasin), Grand Agent, LM Mental, Princes of Babylon, The Ally, The Cannibis Cup All Star Band, Sweetie, Dozia, 7L and Esoteric, the Skitzofreniks, Mic Stylz, Reef the Lost Cauze, Kenneth Masters, Prophets of the Ghetto, Black Lung Brothers, Briz, The Masters and many many more.

40th Dimension are currently on hiatus from performing and recording new material as a group so that Scandal and Happ G can pursue their solo interests. Scandal is working on a solo full length album. Happ G is currently producing for a wide range of artists including Kenneth Masters, Maylay Sparks, Cee Knowledge (formerly Doodlebug of Digable Planets), Adam 12, Side Effect, Briz, Jake Lefco, Reef the Lost Cauze, and many others.
