Oh, the things you can find in Manville! Sassy singer Angie Louise
fronts a bunch of burly boys who crank away on piano, bass, tuba,
drums, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone - all while shouting out
backing vocals in festive attire. Their grab bag of retro music ranges
from Dixieland to beer-hall, from bebop to burlesque, with a few
hillbilly hoedowns thrown in for good measure. This band combines
toe-tappin' urban vaudeville rhythm with a twisted sense of humor
and a vocalist likened in the Seattle press to Sophie Tucker, Carol Burnett, and Judy Garland.
"I now worship at the altar of Angie Louise...
Kitten In Manville is a hoot a minute!"
- TheatreSeattle.com
"Louise is part Eartha Kitt, part Carol Burnett...
This album is brassy, sassy, razzmatazzy fun!"
- TalkinBroadway.com
The diverse individual credits of the men of Manville include appearances at the Swiss National Opera, performances with
Davy Jones of the Monkees, original cast drag roles in "Dirty
Little Showtunes", and a musical Fulbright Fellowship to India.
Many of them play three or four instruments and make their
living as professional pit musicians in musical theatre.
Frontkitten Angie Louise can be seen as the lead actress in
indie-cult film "Gory Gory Hallelujah" (2003). Louise has won
critical acclaim for a variety of starring roles in musical theatre
and cabaret. Recent kicks have included playing bitter, drunken
pianist/chanteuse Ruby LeFevre in the "Lounge Lizards" series
at Crepe de Paris; death-worshipping, pot-smoking femme fatale
Maoli in "Bucket of Blood: The Beatnik Musical", workshopped at
the Seattle Rep; and high-wattage stripper Miss Electra in "Gypsy"
at Seattle's nationally acclaimed 5th Avenue Theatre, alongside
Tony Award winner Judy Kaye. Press for Ms. Louise:
"A terrific belter voice with comedy chops to match."
- Seattle Post-Intelligencer
"A rich voice and comedic flair... Dynamic and talented."
- Seattle Times
"Superb... Sizzling... A mesmerizing presence and amazing voice."
- Seattle Gay News
