Kansas City-based bandleader and bassist Bill McKemy has been offering alternative jazz and cross-cultural grooves through his work with Malachy Papers, Stan Kessler, Terrestrial Consort, and a long list of jazz greats. His solo CD debut DUENDE, demonstrated his excellent ear for mood and stylistic cross-fertilization, shaping elements of nuevo tango and free jazz into a haunting soundscape. His new release OM NIDRAH, is an expansive journey along the contemplative leading edge of jazz. While guitarists Brian Baggett and Jake Blanton evolve textures you could swim through, drummer Tom Morgan churns up one ocean wave after another. McKemy's latest quartet once again demonstrates an ongoing dedication to forward-looking improvisation and artful adventure.
